"D.A.D.S. Day" Cruz for the Cure of Diabetes Poker Run & Car Show
-- Local Organized Labor Affiliates Promote Annual Diabetes Fundraising with 3rd Annual Event on Saturday, September 25th --
The Greater Kansas City Building Trades Council and other area Trade Unions are hosting the third annual D.A.D.S. Day (Dollars against Diabetes) Cruz for the Cure of Diabetes Poker Run and Car Show fundraiser.
Starting at 9:00 a.m. (rescheduled due to rain), the motorcycle poker ride will depart from the Independence Events Center, located at 19100 East Valley View Parkway. A $25 donation provides a ticket to ride, t-shirt and raffle ticket.
The Car Show is being held in the Independence Event Center Parking Lot and will begin at 11:00 a.m. Any and all vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles) are eligible for entry with a $10 donation. While there is no patron admissions fee to tour the car show, donations will be collected upon entry. The Car Show will be judged by each of the local trades with the top bikes and cars awarded at 2:00pm.
This year, the Kansas City union crafts opted to do something that would unite them as a whole entity, coming together for the achievement of one goal: raising funds for diabetic research and its hope for a cure. The Kansas City Organized Labor union chapters have sought to make this a community and city-wide effort. Several area vendors have assisted with the day’s success. These include: Independence Event Center, Missouri Mavericks Hockey Team, Dos Hombres Restaurants, The Labor Beacon Newspaper, among many others.

Ozanam
Ozanam is a multi- service treatment center offering both residential and education day treatment programs for boys and girls (ages 12-18) on their 96 acre Campus in South Kansas City. Started in 1948 as a single-service boys' home, the organization has evolved into current state: onsite residential treatment facility, onsite education and day treatment facility and community outreach services (like Pathways & Cornerstones for Care). Very simply, Ozanam is committed to helping kids and their families regain control of their lives, and rebuild healthy relationships with each other and their community.
Ozanam Guild, is a young professionals organization that provides fund-raising and volunteer support to Ozanam and their treatment facilities. We fundraise through a variety of mediums: monthly networking happy hours (2nd Friday's), concert series, pub crawl's, jazzoo participation, etc. In addition, our volunteer support is critical. Member's of the Guild throw birthday parties every two months for the kids of Ozanam, we host a Spring & Fall BBQ at the Campus, donate a variety of items to the kids (tickets, games, etc) and provide volunteers for a variety of Ozanam events.
