Ozanam

Ozanam is a multi- service treatment center offering both residential and education day treatment programs for boys and girls (ages 12-18) on their 96 acre Campus in South Kansas City.  Started in 1948 as a single-service boys' home, the organization has evolved into current state:  onsite residential treatment facility, onsite education and day treatment facility and community outreach services (like Pathways & Cornerstones for Care).  Very simply, Ozanam is committed to helping kids and their families regain control of their lives, and rebuild healthy relationships with each other and their community.

Ozanam Guild, is a young professionals organization that provides fund-raising and volunteer support to Ozanam and their treatment facilities.  We fundraise through a variety of mediums:  monthly networking happy hours (2nd Friday's), concert series, pub crawl's, jazzoo participation, etc.  In addition, our volunteer support is critical.  Member's of the Guild throw birthday parties every two months for the kids of Ozanam, we host a Spring & Fall BBQ at the Campus, donate a variety of items to the kids (tickets, games, etc) and provide volunteers for a variety of Ozanam events.

A Second Chance At Life For Missy Lucero Foundation

Missy Lucero is a 30 year old young woman who has battled Pulmonary Hypertension since birth; she has undergone many operations in her 30 years of life. She has been told many times that she should prepare for her end of time. She has found that her strong faith in God and will to live has carried her through so far. In 2002, she became terminally ill and was placed on a Heart and Double lung Transplant List at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

In January of 2007, Missy became deathly ill, her stamina decreased; she was on oxygen and was bed ridden. At that time it was petitioned in front of the transplant board to reactivate Missy’s status on the Transplant List. Knowing that it could take more time than she had to wait for a good donor she opted to go forward with an Aortic Valve Replacement, realizing that this would work temporarily and she would jeopardize her chance to receive her transplant. Her surgery took place at Barnes Jewish hospital the morning of January 2, 2007. She was expected to be on life support for 1 week so her body could accept the new valve and so she would not have to work so hard at breathing. She amazed everyone with her remarkable stamina and incredible recovery. She was off of life support and taking steps down the ICU corridor within 2 days. She has remained on the Flolan and it has given Missy two more years but, again Missy’s health is failing. A visit was made to St. Louis June 1st to find that her pulmonary pressures were critically elevated.

Her physicians felt it was necessary to reactivate her on the transplant list, but due to scar tissue on her heart, Missy is no longer a good candidate for transplant. Time is ticking and we can’t sit and wait, we have nothing to lose. The cost of the procedure alone is $64,500.00 and is not covered by insurance being that it has not yet been FDA approved.

Your support is needed for a Second chance at life.
